Sefata Poultry Cooperative
Sefata poultry cooperative was
established 2002 by 6 youth, 3 women and 3 men in Manyeding
village in Kuruman. Department of Agriculture contributed a lot they
donated the 25x10m building and R120 000.00 for renovation, they
got support also from John Taolo Gaetsewe Municipality, Kgalagadi
Charity Trust, Department of Agriculture and Joe Morolong Local
Municipality.
They started the cooperative to
achieve and to obtain the breed's reputation for a low feed
conversion and low production costs, and there is a high demand
of best breast meat.
Sefata poultry will, upon
commencement of operations, sell a broiler chicken and wastes of
these chickens to the local farmers, the wastes are used as
feeds for livestock and fertilizer for garden. what will set
Sefata poultry apart from competition is their commitment to
provide all of these products in one convenient location.
Concerning the pricing they calculate the number
of chickens to be sold in a month in order to cover the fixed,
variable costs and the minimum profit. They purchase pullets for
R4.00 and it cost them R18.50 to raise it, they sell
chickens for R40.00. |
